AUTUMN TERM
History
This term we are learning all about how the lives of children may have changed since Tudor times. We are comparing Tudor life- Victorian life -present day and looking at what continuities there are and also what differences. We came up with questions for a master and his young apprentice “Henry” a ten year old glover apprentice during the 1500’s. The children worked in pairs and had a range of different questions relating to conditions, home life and his feelings on living away from home at such a young age.
Science
This term year four will be learning all of the weird and wonderful things about our digestive system. We have been experimenting with different steps to replicate the ability of all of the organs. We crushed weetabix just like the mouth would, we pushed the weetabix with added saliva (water) through the funnel to show how the oesophagus pushes food into the stomach. Then we emptied the contents into a bag and added acid to show the breaking down of the food. The excitement built as we moved the mixture into the small intestine where we saw the water extracted from the tights into the bowl. Finally the waste product, once all of the nutrients were absorbed into the blood via the large intestine was pushed out of the bottom of the tights to demonstrates what happens when we poo!
PE
Year 4 have made a great start in their PE lessons this week, they have been learning how to strengthen their core muscles and also how to perform an egg roll correctly. Mr Lord was very impressed with them. Well done year 4!
