AUTUMN TERM
In November, we remember...
On Monday, we walked down to Middleton Cenotaph to pay our respects to those whom have lost their lives in wars. Along with Year 6, we led a beautiful service of remembrance and then held a two-minute silence so we could think of those we'd lost. We then spent time reading the names of the soldiers listed on the Cenotaph. It was lovely to see so many parents and grandparents of our children there too.
Treat Afternoon
Our class treat, for filling our marble jar, was playing for the whole afternoon with toys we'd brought from home. We had a fantastic afternoon sharing our toys and playing together. We had so much fun. We cannot wait to do it again soon.
RE
This week, we have been finding out about the Signs and Symbols of Baptism. To help us sequence the events of the special ceremony, we re-enacted the service. Next week, we'll learn about the significance of the water, the white garment, the Oil of Chrism, the shell and the Easter Candle. We will then focus on the role of Godparents. Please have a discussion with your child about their Godparents so they know who they are and why they were chosen.
DT
This half term, we've been learning about Balanced Diets and designing healthy wraps. Last week, we completed a taste testing activity to help us choose vegetables and proteins for our wraps! Many of the children tasted new foods for the first time. Most children were fans of hummus! Have a look at our photos below...
A Tiger's Tale
Today we watched a fabulous show called 'A Tiger's Tale'. It was brilliantly performed by M6 Theatre. The drama told the true story of a family, from Holmfirth, whom brought a tiger home from Africa. They had saved the cub from a lifetime of performing in a circus. The tiger became legendary and people used to visit it in the family home and some even saw it being taken for a walk through the streets of Yorkshire. The children seemed enthralled with the story and have talked about the show all day. I hope they talk to you about it at home too. Here are some photographs we took that you could use to prompt conversation with.
Maths
During Practical Maths on Thursday, we made 2-digit numbers using Base 10. This helped us with our place value knowledge of numbers to 100. In our maths books, we drew the numbers using lines for tens and circles for ones. Next week, we will move on to partitioning and comparing 2-digit numbers to 99.
RE
Last week, we drew self portraits to help us celebrate our differences. This also helped us to understand what 'Human Dignity' is. We spoke about what we love about ourselves and each other. We found we all have lots of special gifts and talents that have been given to us by our parents and God. These pictures will be displayed in the KS1 corridor for everyone to see. Have a look at some of our portraits below-
