AUTUMN TERM
Our new Head boy, Head girl and our deputies.
A huge well done to all of the children who put themselves forward as a candidate for this role. We are so proud of each and every one of you for being courageous to deliver your speeches in front of the whole school.
Our school values
Today we were really lucky to work with an artist to create a piece of felt art linking to each of our school values. First we had to design symbols for each value. Next we had to use special wool, that would shrink when wet, to make the felt images. This part took a lot of effort to roll in soapy water to shrink the wool. We are really pleased with the final piece we have created.
Maths games
Today we learnt how to play ‘Wipe out’ as our maths warm up game. We learnt very quickly tactics to keep our smaller numbers for as long as possible to win the game quicker.
Caritas workshop
Today we took part in a workshop all about gender stereotypes. We explored scenario statements and reflected on reasons which may be stated for and against each scenario. Within our groups we then had to share our reasons and opinions with the whole class.
First Aid Training
Today we received first aid training from Amy, who works for The British Red Cross. We learnt how to recognise and treat allergies, all about treating burns, CPR and how to ensure safety at all times.
Cards for our buddies
In preparation for our Welcome Assembly we have made a special card to give to our buddies to welcome them to St. Peter’s. We can’t wait to spend time with them during the year.
History
We have been learning about the Battle of Britain and today had to discuss statements regarding whether they gave an advantage to the British RAF or the Luftwaffe.
Crucial Crew
Today we attended crucial crew at Rochdale Football Club. We had workshops with the British transport police, Rochdale Council, community nurses, health workers and the police. We learnt about how to stay safe online, how to stay safe on the transport networks, how much littering costs the council and how we can help to prevent this and lots of interesting facts about vaping from the community nurses. We really enjoyed the active activities with Link 4 Life, and discussed how to keep our bodies healthy.
Art
As part of an art unit, where we have been studying photography, today we imitated the work of Andy Goldsworthy. Just like him we used only natural objects we could find in the environment to create colour studies and shapes.
After completing her at work we did have lots of fun with all of the autumn leaves.
Yoga
We have been taking part in yoga sessions to help us learn techniques to relax and calm us; especially with leading up to Year 6 assessments. We have focused on breathing techniques and mantras to remind us that we are strong, brave and powerful children.
Design & Technology
Our design and technology unit of work this half term has focused on playgrounds. First we looked at lots of pictures of different playgrounds and their structures. We discussed which age ranges these were focused on and how the structures change depending on this. Next we designed our own playgrounds and thought about the positions of each piece of equipment for safety and age appropriateness. Next we worked in groups and collaborated our designs. At this point we had to compromise with each other to decide which part of our designs we were going to keep to develop a playground for our group. Then the fun began when we were able to make miniature versions of our playgrounds . I’m sure you can see from the pictures how successful we were.
Advent
Today we had a great, active assembly with the Just Youth team to start off our Advent journey. After this we had a workshop in class where we focused on our Advent promises.
Christmas
We had lots of fun on Christmas party day. We played bingo, played party games, made Christmas hats and had lots of dancing.
