Lent Activity

I hope you managed to complete some of the Lenten activities from last week. Below are some new ideas to try this week. Remember that during Lent  we try to pray, fast and give.

Friday, 5th March, 2021

Well Year 4, we made it! What an unusual few months we have had. You have been AMAZING! You have shown such resilience, dedication and independence. All the staff here at St Peter's think you have been INCREDIBLE! You should all be very proud of yourselves for learning to learn in a completely different way. I have been blown away by the quality of some of the work I have received over email and how, day after day, week after week and month after month you have logged in, completed many different tasks and learnt so many new skills. Because of all the work you have done at home, it'll make the transition back to school so much easier for you. Please say a massive thank you to all of your hard working parents for helping and supporting you through it all. It has been brilliant working in collaboration with them and you should be very grateful to them. On Monday, your parents can hand you over and be safe in the knowledge that we, as teachers, will work very hard with helping you to settle back into school life surrounded by love. We cannot wait to see you all!

Let's crack on with today's tasks now, one final push before you can have a weekend of relaxation and rest.

Today, our World Book Day zoom meeting is at 11 am. It is optional to wear an outfit so please do not worry one bit if you haven't got one. We will be having a go at a World Book Day quiz so you'll need a pencil and paper.

Today's prayers-https://www.tentenresources.co.uk/prayers-for-home/54-t80it492i2b5869iopt4rpguj9-q/

Task 1- Maths. Today, our maths task is linked to World Book Day. I'd like you to have a go at the attached challenge where you will need to decode a message using your maths skills. This challenge can be written into your workbooks if you don't have a printer. I have also set some time challenges on Purple Mash to keep these skills 'ticking' over in your heads.

World Book Day- Maths

Task 2- TTRS. On Monday we will have a look at the leaderboard and see where we all are on it, it'd be wonderful if we could lockdown in the top 3 classes in the school.

Task 3- English. Today is the last lesson in the punctuation sequence of lessons, this lesson recaps simple, complex and compound sentences. Here is the video-

https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/to-revise-simple-compound-and-complex-sentences-6tgp2d

Task 4- Guided Reading. This is set on Purple Mash.

Task 5- Spelling Shed. We are currently fifth on Spelling Shed but not too far behind Year 5. It'd be amazing if we could overtake them on the final day!

Family Fun Friday

This afternoon is your free time to enjoy being at home with your family. Have fun with whatever you do. Try to spend some time away from your screens as I realise with Purple Mash, English, Spelling Shed and TTRS that is a lot of time staring at a monitor. It is World Book Day so maybe find somewhere quiet and warm and read your favourite book.  Here are a couple of WBD word searches and other paper based activities you might like to have a go at.

WBD Wordsearch

The Masked Reader Quiz

WBD Crafts 1

WBD Craft 2

WBD Craft 3

Have an amazing weekend boys and girls and we CANNOT wait to see you on Monday (whoop whoop).

Tuesday, 2nd March, 2021

Morning boys and girls, it looks as though it's going to be another lovely day today, work hard but remember to take lots of breaks too!

Here are today's tasks-

Morning prayer-

https://www.tentenresources.co.uk/prayers-for-home/54-t80it492i2b5869iopt4rpguj9-q/

Task 1- Maths. In addition to this work I have set some tasks on Purple Mash to help you revise o'clock and half past. Many children find learning time difficult, the best practice is to wear a watch and read the time regularly. When we return to school we will complete time activities as morning starters but the more work you can do at home on time, the easier it will be.

Here is today's video-

https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/reading-writing-and-converting-time-between-12-hour-and-24-hour-clocks-6hj66t

Here is the worksheet-

Time worksheet- Tuesday

Task 2- TTRS. Please spend 20 minutes learning your times tables, the 'jamming' section has been very popular in class!

Task 3- English. Today we going to revise using inverted commas (speech marks). Please write the sentences neatly in your workbooks.

https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/to-explore-punctuating-speech-first-c9j30c

Task 4- Spelling Shed- Please continue to work on this week's spellings, these words end in the suffix 'cian'.

Task 5- Guided Reading- Set on Purple Mash.

Task 6- RE. Today's task is linked to knowing how to live in God’s way. Please read through the following PPT, please discuss the questions with an adult in your home (maybe you could talk to an older sibling if you have one). For the main task you are asked to write a 'charter to live by'. This is a set of rules/guidelines to help us be the best Christians we can be. There is an example of how you could start off your 'charter' in the PPT attached. It'd be wonderful if we could display some of your work on our classroom displays- maybe you could bring them into school next week?

Living in God's Way ppt

Lastly, all this week to celebrate World Book Day, I will be uploading some of my favourite picture books for children. Today's is by Anthony Brown (we recently read his version of Hansel and Gretel in class). Here is Gorilla by Anthony Brown-

Good morning Year 4, I can't believe it's March already! Spring is definitely in the air. I hope you managed to enjoy time in the sun over the weekend!

Just one more week to go until we are all back together- I can't wait! If you are feeling anxious and a little bit worried, it's ok. I feel nervous too but I know once we are all back together it'll feel like we've never been away! I can't wait to see each and everyone you. You have been missed!

Here are today's tasks-

Morning prayer-

https://www.tentenresources.co.uk/prayers-for-home/54-t80it492i2b5869iopt4rpguj9-q/

Task 1- Maths- This week we will be revising 'time' and learning some new facts. You have been taught about time since Year 1 and it's something we refer to all the 'time'(sorry....couldn't help it!). https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/reading-analogue-and-digital-12-hour-clocks-6xjk2d

Here are the worksheets- if you can't print them out, then please write the answers and draw some clocks in your workbooks- try to find something small and round to draw around to keep the clocks neat and clear.

Time Worksheets

Task 2- TTRS, Please do spend 20 minutes on TTRS, I can see some children are only going on for a couple of minutes.

Task 3- English- This week we will be revising key punctuation. This is really useful revision so we can move on to new concepts when we return to school.

Here is the link to the first lesson based on apostrophes.

https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/to-explore-the-function-of-apostrophes-70up2d

Please write the sentences in your workbooks.

Task 4- Guided Reading- This is set on Purple Mash.

Task 5- Spelling Shed. This week we will be using the suffix '-cian'. Here is the worksheet to practice on and the assignment is set too.

Weekly Spellings Worksheet

Task 6- Geography. Last week we launched our new topic 'Paris'. You were tasked with locating Paris on a map and looking at some key geographical features.

This week we would like you to 'research a key tourist attraction' located in Paris. You could choose one of the following-

  • The Eiffel Tower
  •  Louvre Museum
  • Notre Dame Cathedral
  • Champs de Elysees
  • Arc de Triomphe
  • The Seine River

Here is an information powerpoint to help you decide which attraction you would like to research-

Paris Tourist Attraction ppt

You can present your information in any way you choose, below are a few templates for leaflets if you would like to use them or you could make a 'Tourist Information' style poster.

FAMILY FUN FRIDAYS

Well it's that time again!

This afternoon it's time to choose something you enjoy doing. I know that many of you like baking cakes or doing art work. Why not get outside and visit a park or go for a walk? I know it's early but there are a few signs around that Spring is on its way, can you spot any daffodils or snow drop flowers growing? Can you hear and see more birds around than of late?

You could play a board game or even do some jobs for your parents!!!

Thank you for working hard this week and I hope you have a lovely weekend.

Mrs Jones

Thursday 25th February 2021

Good Morning children,

Unfortunately, yesterday we had to set new Purple Mash passwords to everyone due to someone sending mean and nasty messages via our class blog. Because of this incident, we will no longer have a class blog. This saddens me greatly as it is a way for me to chat to children at home. If you are at home and need to speak to me, you can phone school or email me via our Year 4 email address. I will be emailing Purple Mash passwords out to parents today, please make sure these passwords are not shared with anyone else!

Well boys and girls... WE MADE IT! Finally, the last day of this half term. I don't think you understand just how proud I am of your resilience, determination and hard work this term. I think you have been wonderful! You can all rest soon knowing just how much you have achieved during this difficult time. I've always known how magical children can be...you've all proved it!

We have a zoom meeting this morning at 11am, today I will be asking you go on a Scavenger Hunt around your houses looking for certain items. During this, please be mindful of your families, don't scare your pets my leaping over them unexpectedly and please don't fling babies out of their cots looking for fluffy blankets! If you make a mess searching for things, please be kind and tidy up after yourselves. The quick quests I will send on will be for things like 'find me something red'. I won't make them too tricky!

Today's tasks

Morning Prayers-

https://www.tentenresources.co.uk/prayers-for-home/34b9efgj903487043otq408er083q4y/

Task 3- English. Today I would like you to complete a reading comprehension based on Chinese New Year. Please find attached the reading task and a set of questions. Please remember to answer in full sentences. This reading will replace the Purple Mash reading for today.

Chinese New Year Reading Comprehension

Task 4- Spelling Shed- Please practice this weeks spellings for another 20 minutes, then, ask an adult or older sibling in your home to test you on them.

Family Fun Friday

This afternoon is a time to spend having fun and relaxing with your families. It is vital for out mental health that we switch off from work to rest and play! Spend time doing whatever makes you happy!

Maybe you could go out for some fresh air with your family, or watch a funny film together. Maybe you could make a Valentines Day card of gift for someone you love! Or, with your family's permission (and help), you could make someone you love a nicely decorated cake.

Whatever you choose to do this afternoon, I hope you have lots of fun and are happy.

Have a lovely half term Year 4, make sure you rest and we'll be back in touch on Monday 22nd February. It won't be long now until we are all back together, in our loving school, where we belong!

Take care,

Mrs Jones

Thursday, 11th February, 2021

Hello Year 4....we are so close now to half term. We can almost touch it!

Here are today's tasks.

Morning Prayers-

https://www.tentenresources.co.uk/prayers-for-home/34b9efgj903487043otq408er083q4y/

Task 1- Maths. In today's lesson, you will begin to learn how to move a shape from one position to another on a grid. This is called 'translation'. Follow the link to watch Mr Critchlow explain this in more detail. Today's lesson is a fun one but it is quite challenging. Try your best boys and girls.

https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/to-describe-movement-between-positions-as-translations-of-a-given-unit-leftright-or-updown-1-65h36t

Here is the worksheet- if you don't have a printer, you can write out the new positions of the shapes in your workbooks. Try to draw out the tables in your books, you won't need to draw out the grids today. The tasks look like this-

Translation worksheet

Task 2- TTRS. One more day of the tournament left! When we return to school I wonder how many of you will join the 144 club?!

Task 3- RE Today we will continue with our work based on the Eucharist. In this lesson, we will think about how we prepare ourselves for the Eucharist and what happens in church at this point in the mass. Please read the information in the attachment below, then answer the questions in your home learning books and complete the task.

RE Lesson 2- Eucharist

Task 4- Spelling Shed. Please play for 20 minutes.

Task 5- Guided Reading. I accidentally set the wrong chapter yesterday, if you read Chapter 5 of The Big Foot story yesterday then please read Chapter 4 today. The 2dos will expire on Friday at 3:30 so please make sure you have read all of the chapters of which ever book I have set you and that you've also done the quizzes. The additional tasks don't have to be done.

Task 6- Music. Many of you have messaged me to say how much you are enjoying these lessons- me and Mrs Clinch are too! Here is the next lesson, today we will explore 6 beats in bar!

https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/exploring-6-beats-in-a-bar-6cw38d

Finally, for our 'end of day story', I thought you might like to hear the entire story of Hansel and Gretel by Anthony Browne. Enjoy!

Wednesday 10th February, 2021

We are half way through the week boys and girls, it won't be long until Friday! Keep going Year 4, we are really proud of you! Just think how proud will you feel come Friday when you know you've worked really hard all term!

Today's tasks-

 Daily Prayers-

https://www.tentenresources.co.uk/prayers-for-home/34b9efgj903487043otq408er083q4y/

Task 1- Maths. Today we are drawing coordinates onto grids to create triangles. If you don't have a printer you will need to use a ruler and draw out some grids that go from 0-10 on your 'Y' axis and 0-10 on you 'X' axis. In the video, Mr Critchlow explains how to do this. This is the trickiest lesson so far, please don't attempt this one if you haven't yet done Monday or Tuesday's lesson.

https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/to-plot-specified-points-and-draw-sides-to-complete-a-given-triangle-cgtker

Here are the worksheets, they can be copied into your books. For the starter task, you could just write out some of multiplications as sums. Please don't attempt to draw our the timestable grid, it will take too long.

Coordinates Worksheet

Task 2- TTRS. The boys are currently in the lead...come on girls! Please all play for 20 minutes.

Task 3- English. Today is the last lesson on Hansel and Gretel. This lesson will look at fairytales as a genre. Please follow this link for the lesson-

https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/to-explore-genre-6rw3gdTa

Task 4- Spelling Shed. We have slipped to fourth place on the leaderboard, it would be wonderful to finish the term in second place! Please spend 20 minutes on this game.

Task 5- Guided Reading. Set on Purple Mash.

Task 6- Geography. Today's task is based on research and so it might take you a few days. This week, we would like you to think about the links you personally have with the wider world. Please spend the afternoon speaking with the adults you live with, tell them about the continents, countries and cities you have been learning about. Then, together, discuss the places you have either been to or have other links with, for example- your grandparents might have been born in a different country, your mum or dad might have had a penpal in a different country when they were younger, your favourite footballer or celebrity might be from a country different to England. This activity will really help you to understand the wider world better. Below are a few worksheets for you to use to track the information you find, you can simply write it down in a table (like on worksheet 1) or use the map of the world and shade in the places you are linked to (try to write some information too as to why you are linked there).

My Links to the World worksheet 1

My Links- World Map

Finally, here is Cressida Cowell reading the very last chapter of our class text. I have really enjoyed this book, I hope you have too!

Tuesday, 9th February, 2021

Hello boys and girls, thank you for all the work submitted yesterday. You are all doing brilliantly.

Here are today's tasks-

Below is the link for this week's prayers to begin each day with a short reflection as we do in school

https://www.tentenresources.co.uk/prayers-for-home/34b9efgj903487043otq408er083q4y/

Task 1- Maths. Today we will continue with our co-ordinates work. We will investigate problems by describing positions on a 2-D grid.  Follow the link below to access the teaching video-

https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/to-investigate-a-problem-describing-position-on-a-2-d-grid-as-coordinates-6mv3cr

Now have a go at these worksheets- https://stpeters.sites.schooljotter2.com/downloadfile/16454248

if you don't have a printer, please use your home learning books. For this 'moving on task'- you could copy the chart into your books easily-

For the next maths tasks, you could copy them down into your home learning maths books (you'll need squared paper) please don't be put off if you don't have a printer, it is more time consuming but definitely doable!

Task 2- TTRS Don't forget about battle! Please play for at least 20 minutes!

Task 3- Computing. Today is Internet Safety Day. Staying safe whilst you are accessing the internet and playing online games with your friends is so very important. The BBC have a live lesson starting at 11am today that looks informative. Here is the link for the live lesson-

https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/live-lessons/safer-internet-day-live-lesson/zdh2wnb

This is a worksheet you may need during the lesson-

http://teach.files.bbci.co.uk/livelessons/SaferInternetDayLL-ActivitySheet_v2-compressed.pdf

Remember, if you see anything online that upsets you, worries you or confuses you then you MUST tell an adult! Tell your parents, tell an older sibling or tell a teacher. We can help to keep you safe if you are honest and open with us.

Task 4- English. I hope you are enjoying these lessons based on Hansel and Gretel, today we will explore the characters of the step-mother and the witch!

 https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/to-analyse-a-character-6crkct

Task 5- Spelling Shed. It is wonderful to see we are still second in the school, let's narrow the gap between us and 4C! Play for 20 minutes please.

Task 6- Guided Reading. These tasks are set on Purple Mash. If you like the look of a particular book on Serial Mash, let me know and I can set it as our next text!

Enjoy Chapter 18 of How to Train your Dragon.

This week is children's mental health week. Around three children in every primary school class have a mental health problem, and many more struggle with challenges from bullying to bereavement. This year’s theme is ‘Express Yourself’ and is about helping children to find ways to share their feelings, thoughts, or ideas through creativity. This could be through art, music, writing and poetry, dance and drama, photography and film, and doing activities that make them feel good. This is not about being the best at something or putting on a performance for others. It is about helping children to find a way to show who they are, and how they see the world, that can help them feel good about themselves.

Friday 5th February

Well done Everyone. We have made it to the end of another week of home learning.

Don't forget to join me for a zoom catch up at 11.00am today. You should have all received the access codes. As it is children's mental health week this week and it is all about expressing yourself, we would like you to choose something you have at home which cheers you up and makes you feel happy. It might be a favourite toy or a special photograph. You can choose what you want and we will take it in turns to talk about the objects. Please mute your microphone whilst others are talking so that everyone gets a turn. If you are in school please listen to the children at home and you can do the activity on Monday!

Have a lovely day!

Monday 1st February 2021

Good morning Year 4. I hope you have had a lovely weekend! It was brilliant to see so many of your faces on our Zoom meeting on Friday. It is the highlight of my week. If you haven't yet joined us for a Zoom meeting then please do so this Friday.

If you have any photos from Family Fun Friday you would like to share, then please send them my way and I will upload them on here.

Here are today's tasks-

Our daily prayers see attached link.

https://www.tentenresources.co.uk/prayers-for-home/456-07549743872355-43/

Task 1- Maths. This week we will continue our work on shape. Today we are looking at symmetry. Something is symmetrical when it is the same on both sides. A shape has symmetry if a central dividing line (a mirror line) can be drawn on it, to show that both sides of the shape are exactly the same.

Here is a video to explain this in more detail-

https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/to-identify-lines-of-symmetry-in-2-d-shapes-64tk6e?activity=worksheet&step=3

Here are the worksheets. I understand these tasks are tricky if you don't have a printer but you can always number the shapes and then write in your workbooks whether they have lines of symmetry or not. When I am marking work, I have the worksheets infront of me, so your work will make sense to me! Please don't worry...just have a go!

Task 5- Guided Reading- Set on Purple Mash

From this week we are starting our Family Fun Fridays. This is to thank you for working so hard all week and to give you time to complete activities of your choice.  You can do anything you like! Here are some ideas if you need inspiration though-

  • Baking biscuits
  • Family art (maybe you could draw each other a portrait)
  • Yoga and Meditation- There are loads of videos to watch on YouTube to support this.
  • Going on a Winter Walk- look for signs of winter in the areas around your home (Alkrington Woods is a wonderful place to visit)
  • Continue to make bird feeders to welcome birds into your gardens.
  • Playing with Lego.

Whatever you choose to do (maybe you'll choose simply to relax with each other) then we hope you have fun. We don't need you to send photos of these tasks to us, just enjoy them (obviously we would love to have a nosey at your photos should you choose to send them though!)

If you have any fun ideas that I can pass on to other families then please let me know about them via email and I will suggest them next week!

Have a wonderful day and weekend with your families.

THURSDAY 28th JANUARY 2021

Hello Year 4,

I hope you are all ok! I am really looking forward to our zoom meeting tomorrow. I hope you can all join us!

Yesterday, I received lots of photos of children learning new skills that are not necessarily taught at school, for example, our Alfie has been helping his mummy and daddy around the house, folding the washing and shopping for vulnerable neighbours (I have attached some photos in Our Gallery). If you have been 'learning' other skills, then I would LOVE to know. I am keeping a log of all the work you boys and girls are doing and I can add this extra learning to my log!

Today's tasks-

Our daily prayers see attached link.

https://www.tentenresources.co.uk/prayers-for-home/456-07549743872355-43/

Task 1- Maths. Today our lesson is based on two different types of triangles- isosceles triangles and scalene triangles.

Here is Mr Critchlow explaining the challenge-

https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/to-compare-and-classify-isosceles-and-scalene-triangles-chj62c

Here are the worksheets, if you don't have a printer, then for the naming task you can just write down the names of the triangles in your workbooks. For the drawing task, you could try to draw the shapes out using a ruler.

Task 4- Spellings. Please spend at least 20 minutes on Spelling Shed.

Task 5- Guided Reading- This is set on Purple Mash

Task 6- The Big Garden Bird Watch 2021 This weekend is the RSPB's Big Garden Bird Watch. We thought it would be a lovely idea to spend some time today thinking of ways to welcome birds into your garden or local area. Below is a letter from Salford Diocese reminding us that- “All of us can cooperate as instruments of God for the care of creation”.

Here is a power point explaining the reason we hold the annual bird watching event and within the power point is a range of tasks you can have a go at including making your own bird feeders, sketching garden birds and creating fact files (the fact file template is included below too).

Please do as many of the tasks as you can, there is no need to rush so take your time with this.

Mrs Jones

Friday 8th January

Thank-you so much to the children who have managed to send work through to me. I imagine many more of you are doing the work but are perhaps struggling to send it. It might be easier if you take a photo of your work on your iPads and send it to me on our Purple Mash blog? I really do want to see all of your lovely work so please try.

When you are working, try to have regular breaks in the day and give your parents a break too by doing a task then using TTRS or Spelling Shed independently for a while. Parents are busy too remember.

It is lovely reading your blogs and emails on Purple Mash. Our Harry B has adopted a Turtle and has uploaded a photo for us to see! It really helps keep people cheerful if they keep in touch.

Here are today's tasks-

Task 1- Maths

We are moving on to something new on Monday so today we are going to recap arrays.
Today we are using a lesson on Oak academy. Sometimes the links are temperamental so we have written instructions for access.
Please google 'oak academy year4' , then click- Maths, multiplication and division, lesson 1- Click start lesson.

Listen carefully to the video and pause when you need to think about a question. When you have finished look at the pictures on one of the sheets (choose the one you think best) and in your books write down the calculation that they represent.

Here are the links-

I hope you all have a lovely weekend. Stay safe and see you Monday!!

Thursday, 7th January, 2021

Morning boys and girls,

Please download the power point and say our morning prayer with me.

Task 1- Maths

Today we are learning to multiply 3 numbers together. I have a video demonstrating how to do this and there are a few worksheets to do too. If you do not have access to a printer, then the sums can be written out in your workbook. When you are completing today's work, look for sums that you already know the answer to, for example, if you need to work out 2 x 4 x 8=, we already know that 2 x 4= 8 and so you can shorten the sum to work out 8 x 8. Look for number facts within each question to help you.

The first worksheet that I have attached below is for children who would normally have extra support in class. Please try to do two of the maths tasks below.

Our new Topic this half term is 'Where in the World?' We will learn all about Continents, Countries and Capital Cities. Today's task is based on the 7 continents. Listen to the continents song below (which I know you all love) and then read through the power point. I have attached a few different tasks for you to choose from. If you do not have a printer I would suggest you complete the fact file as you can copy this out into your workbook. The answers are on the last sheets for you to see how well you have done.

YEAR 4J

ST BERNADETTE

Welcome to Year 4

My name is Mrs Jones and I am the Year 4J class teacher for this academic year. We are very lucky to have Miss Evans as our class teaching assistant whom lots of you know from Year 3.

We fully understand that the children have been out of school for many months and may be reluctant to return. However, we will be here to try and make the transition from Year 3 to Year 4 a smooth and happy one.

We  are both looking forward to getting to know your child over the course of the year.

If you do need to speak to me before term starts then you can email year4@stpetersrc.rochdale.sch.uk and I will try to help the best I can.

Please can we remind you that we are a nut free school. Please do NOT send your child to school with anything that contains nuts, This includes products that say, 'May Contain Nuts'. Your child will not be able to eat any of these products on the school premises.

Mrs Jones & Miss Evans

Key Information

Please send your child to school every day with a water bottle.

Homework will be given out on a Monday and handed in on a Friday. Spelling tests will be given on a Friday.

Reading books will be given out each week  on a  Monday and we ask you to return them on a Friday. We will not be issuing Reading record books to any children but staff will keep a record of the books read by your child. You may also like to do this at home.
The returned reading books will be kept in ‘class quarantine areas’ for 72 hours before being given out again, to help minimise any possible virus transmission.

Please only send your child's reading packet to school on a Monday and a Friday.

Children should read every night  (even if it is one page).

If your child needs additional reading material then

Oxford Owl is a fantastic site, on which you can access lots of reading books, just like the ones we send home from school. They are all colour banded, just like the ones we have in school, so the children will be familiar with them.

Autumn 2

We have had such a busy half term! We have achieved so much together! You should all be very proud of yourselves! Have a look below at what we've been up to-

In Maths, we have been learning all about Measure. Our focus was to convert mm to cm. cm to m and m to km. We measured a variety of objects to remind ourselves of the differences between each unit of measure.

We have also been learning our timestables, Please encourage and support your children with accessing TT Rockstars for 15 minutes each evening. It really will make a difference to their recalling skills!

For Remembrance Day we looked at the words of the poignant poem In Flanders's Field and created art work using silhouettes.

Egyptian Shadufs

Following on from the prototypes, we went out into the woods and gathered resources to help us make real, working Shadufs. We all had so much fun!

Prototypes of Egyptian Shadufs

This afternoon we made prototypes of Shadufs. A shaduf is a  hand-operated device for lifting water, invented in ancient times and still used in India, Egypt, and some other countries to irrigate land. Typically it consists of a long, tapering, nearly horizontal pole mounted like a seesaw. We used straws, blu-tac and cupcake cases to experiment with the mechanics. Next week, we will be making larger shadufs and testing their ability to hold water.

Class 4J demonstrated excellent team work and perseverance this afternoon. I was really proud of them!

Our Gallery

As well as the wonderful work I have been sent through by your parents (thank you!) I have also been sent photos of the other 'learning' you have been doing! Have a look below at our class gallery.

Tuesday 2nd March- RE

Here is an amazing example of the 'Charter To Live By' task that was set in RE. Harry B has done a beautiful job of writing a set of guidelines we can all use in order to live as God intended. Well done Harry!

Tuesday, 2nd March- Maths

Maths is particularly hard to set out this week if you don't have a printer- here is a picture of Jessica's work so you can see how it can be done.

Well done Jess, your presentation is beautiful!

Friday 26th February

As we all know, 'giving' is an important thing to do all year round, but during Lent it is something us Christians try to do more of. Our Alfie and his little brother Oliver have been raising money for various charities during lockdown. This week, the boys have been raising money for the 'Make a Wish Foundation'. This charity supports children with terminal illnesses. The boys have been washing, drying and folding clothes in order to raise money- I think this act of kindness is another example of just how much the boys have 'given' recently and I am so proud of them. Well done boys, let me know how much you have raised in total and I will add the total here.

Maths-

Jessica constructed these 3D shapes using straws and blue-tac. Well done Jess! By making your own models of 3D shapes you will be able to see the vertices clearer, the edges (which are often the trickiest to count) and you can also see the shape of the individual faces.

Our Harry made a very impressive Tetrakis Hexahedron. It’s has 24 faces, 36 edges and 14 vertices. He used Geomag sticks! What an amazing shape!

Here is Alfie and his brother Oliver being absolutely amazing! They have raised £115 for The Ronald McDonald House at Alder Hey Hospital. They have baked and sold cakes to help this wonderful charity! What special boys you are! We are very proud of you!

A massive Happy Birthday to our lovely Emmie. Here she is having chocolate smothered waffles to celebrate! They look delicious! I hope you had a wonderful day!

Alfie made these gorgeous looking cakes on Friday! I'm in school with you on the first Monday after half term Alfie (wink wink!)

Another act of kindness by another child in our class.

Here is Alfie and his brother Oliver. They are completing different challenges at home and, instead of getting spending money, they are donating money to local charities. This week, the boys took part in a running competition and donated the money earned to The Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital Genetics Trust (Gem Appeal). This is a charity that is close to the boys heart as the hospital treated their cousin Ruby.

Well done boys. You are inspirational. Let us know what your next challenge is!

World Read Aloud Day 2021

To celebrate this event, in school we read 100 Steps by Captain Tom Moore. Here is Lucas and Freya enjoying a story together too.

In RE today, we have been learning about giving and receiving. We all know it is lovely to receive things like presents and treats but we agreed in class that we feel joy and happiness when we give too.

Recently, our Harry saw a photograph of a poor little boy, in Africa, who was so desperate for a football shirt that he drew one on his bare chest and back. He wanted to represent his favourite team and player. Harry was so moved by this that he went to collect old football kits from his wardrobe that he no longer needed. Harry loved these kits and was collecting them but he decided to donate them to children like the boy in the image. What a beautiful and kind act! I am so proud of you Harry!

Harry and his family donated the kits through a charity called KitAid

Snow Fun

Here is our Lucas sledging with his little sister Freya. I hope you had lots of fun!

The Big Bird Watch

Wow boys and girls! I have received some lovely photos of you making bird feeders, observing the skies and making bird fact files. I have added some photos below but will add more when I receive them! As Eco Council Leader it makes me so happy to see you all welcoming birds and wildlife into your gardens! Keep up the amazing work!

Here is our Bobby (and his little brother Charlie). They went on an historical walk around Middleton learning all about the history of St Leonard's Church. Bobby learned that the church is just over 600 years old and had extra work done on it by a man called Richard Assheton, which is the same name as the local Public House in the centre of Middleton. Then, they had a well deserved dinner of fish & chips!

I hope you enjoyed your day boys...and your sledging!

Here is our Alfie. He's been very busy this week writing letters to his loved ones, shopping for his vulnerable neighbours and helping his parents at home! Well done Alfie. I am very proud of you!

Here is our Jessica with a snowman she had built. Let's hope for more snow soon. Thank you sharing this Jess!

Here is Alfie and his brother Oliver looking after our local environment by picking up litter. What a kind and thoughtful thing to do! Thank you boys!

Here is Oliver's beautiful new puppy Bruno! He is looks adorable! Thank you for sharing this photo with us.

I have more beautiful art work from some of you today, here are Harry B's and Jessica's winter pictures. They are excellent.

Look at this beautiful tree that Harry B painted on Friday! I can see a variety of line types that you have used. I love the snow detail too and the colours used! Well done Harry

Below is Lucas' 'Happiness' poem for you all to enjoy.

Well done Lucas

Below are three lovely poems linked to our PSHE and English task today. Thank you Jamie, Niamh and Lincoln for your inspiring poems. I will be adding more throughout the day!

Look at this beautiful winter tree that Jamie has drawn! I love it Jamie, well done!

Here are Alfie and his brother Daniel doing their tree art work. Well done boys!

Thank you for all of the work you have submitted over the last couple of days. You should be very proud of yourselves.

Below are two examples of the RE assessment which are I hope will inspire you if you haven't yet done yours. Thank you to Jessica and Harry B for submitting this work for us all to see.
